Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
Thank you for a great start to the first 6 weeks of the school year! October is National Bullying Prevention Month and we are going to celebrate and encourage the idea of Stomping out Bullying in a big way at Hanshew. Every Monday, we are asking students and staff to wear the color blue. Prizes will be drawn for students who are wearing blue. Our kickoff celebration will begin with an assembly on Wednesday, October 6th at 2:00pm with 2 dynamic guest speakers: SRO John Butler and former NFL player and Anchorage's current Chief Equity Officer- Uluao (Junior) Aumavae. We will be on an assembly schedule on October 6th, so please check the bell schedule. Please see the Hanshew website for other fun activities and events.
October 21st is the end of the 1st quarter. There is no school for students on that day. Grades will be viewable to parents on Parent Connect in Q on October 25th. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Oct. 26 from 12:15-3:00pm and 4-7pm and on Oct 27th from 12:15-3:00pm. Please see the bell schedule for that week. There is no sign up schedule, so please come when you are available!
There is no school for students on Friday, October 28th. Also, November 8th is an asynchronous day for students to remain at home and complete assignments in Canvas online. Only staff will be in the building completing trainings and other professional responsibilities.
Lastly, as it gets colder outside, we want to encourage students to dress warmer. Students will not be allowed to wear slides, crocs, flip flops, Birkenstocks, sandals, and other similar shoes during the 2nd and 3rd quarters (Oct. 24-March 10) due to safety concerns.
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding this school year! Thank you for also entrusting us with your children, we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lakhita Hodge
Hanshew Middle School Principal
