Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
We are already 5 weeks into the 3rd quarter and starting the new semester and 2023 year strong! The new extended bell schedule will be in effect from Jan. 30-March 9, 2023. Please see the schedule on the website.
We honored 322 students who made honor roll and 116 who earned a 4.0 with ice cream and certificates, way to go Hanshew Hawks! There will be a special 4.0 breaksfast for students and their families who have maintained a 4.0 all school year on Thursday Feb. 23, 2023 at 7:00am. Please be on the look out for your invitation.
This month we are celebrating Black History Month (Feb. 1-28), Kindness Week (Feb. 6-10), and National School Counselors Week (Feb. 6-10). Please share this with your students and encourage them to participate in the festivities and special appreciations.
The Valentine's Day Dance will be on February 14, 2023 from 3:00-4:30pm. Students will be released 15 minutes before the end of class to attend.
Just a reminder, there are no parent teacher conferences for middle school in February. Please check your student's grades in canvas and Q and encourage them to attend tutoring afterschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm in the library. Please contact your student's team of teachers to schedule a meeting.
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding this school year! Thank you for also entrusting us with the education and care of your students, we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lakhita Hodge
Hanshew Middle School Principal
Welcome to February:
I appreciate all of your support in dealing with discipline issues at Hanshew. We strive to make Hanshew an inviting, safe place for all students and it takes all of us being vigilent. I always welcome your call if you suspect your child or another child is being bullied or there is an unsafe situation.
We continue with the dress code policy of no crocs, open toed shoes or slippers through the month of February. Students are required to call home if they come to school wearing one of these.
Cell Phones are only to be used before and after school, your continued support in not contacting your student during the day, but going through the office is helpful.
Boys basketball and cross country skiing is in full swing this month, please come out and support the Hawks!
Next month track and field gets underway, if your child hasn't participated in sports this year, please make sure to complete all the necessary paperwork prior to Spring Break.
Sincerely,
Kelly Byers, AP
