Welcome South Carolina Cheer Coaches!
• No coach/team may practice outside their in-season or open season dates. (This includes volunteer coaches who work with your team during in-season)
• No coach/team may practice after their season concludes.
• Strength and conditioning programs will not be affected by the limitation on practices. Conditioning programs are not to include agility drills to enhance specific skills for a given sport, nor may equipment for any sport be used.
• A coach can no longer work with any athletes on sports-specific skills/drills during the closed season.
The main question that the SCHSL is receiving is about athletes going to their local gym to work on skills. As long as the athlete is attending on their own and the class is open for anyone to attend this is allowed. However, please note that if your school has a coach who works at the gym they cannot work with your school’s athletes and/or any students currently in the 7th–12th grade who are eligible for your school.
This would be a violation of the closed season. Please be mindful of this and make sure that your athletes and program are following the closed season rules. Open season for competitive starts on March 1st.
.• Open Season allows for coaches to have the entire month of March to practice. Current 7th - 11th graders ONLY!
• Tryouts are allowed starting in May.
• Students enrolled in sixth grade and above can participate in tryouts. (Students must be in your feeder school)
