Students participate in small group instruction no more than 2 times weekly for 40 minutes. Students are taught steps to skills, such as classroom success skills and alternatives to aggression. C.A.R.E. team members support children inside the classroom by working with classroom teachers and outside of the classroom by suggesting activities to practice skills at home. Classroom teachers refer parents to C.A.R.E. groups and parental permission is required. This group is run by the Behavior Interventionist and a paraeducator.
A small skills-based group for elementary students who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress due to one or more stressful events. Students learn how to relax; change upsetting thoughts, feelings and behaviors; problem solve; and move forward toward healthier living. This group requires parent participation with parent meetings and home based activities. This group is run by the School Counselor.
There are various social skills groups run by both the Behavior Interventionist, the School Counselor and staff. In general these social skill groups teach a variety of Social Emotional Skills from: Self- Awareness; Self- Management; Social Awareness; Relationship Skills; Responsible Decision Making; and Classroom Survival Skills. Inquiries for these groups can be made to the counseling staff. Students may be referred by the staff or family.
Lunch groups are for students to visit with an adult to practice their skills in staring conversations, establishing friendships, practicing good manners and playing a games with the lunch buddy group. Students come during their lunch and recess time when the group is available. Students self-refer to this group or may be referred by staff.
