2. Self- Management: Regulating one’s own emotions, thoughts and behaviors in different situations using relaxations skills, controlling one’s impulses and working towards personal goals.
3. Social Awareness: Being aware of one’s environment by taking the perspective of others, showing empathy toward others and showing expected behaviors for that environment.
4. Relationship Skills: Maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups by appropriately communicating, cooperating, listening, and navigating conflicts or pressures.
5. Responsible Decision Making: Realistically evaluating personal and social choices for the health and safety of one’s own self and others.
All students need SEL. All students need to be taught SEL skills to be healthy, happy, and productive members of our community. All students receive SEL through classroom curriculums and activities planned throughout the year to build a healthy school climate. However, some students progress with SEL skills at different rates, just like they do when learning math or reading. These students may need extra support in learning these skills through small group instruction or on an individual basis.
