About Ms. Hoehler
Hello Ascension Longhorns!
I am so excited to be back for my second year as your School Counselor! I am here to support you in all things social, emotional, academic, and future planning. My door is always open to talk!
As some of you may know, I am a huge UofL fan and have two adorable dogs, Smokey and Pebbles. Some other things you might want to know about me is that on Friday nights, you will find me playing sand volleyball. I love summertime, Snickers bars, and Chipotle. My favorite color is blue and I am in Hufflepuff House. My dream job is to be a school counselor and I feel so blessed to be at Ascension!
Please feel free to ask me questions and reach out to me with anything you might need. I know this year is going to be the best! Go Longhorns!
School Counseling Services
Classroom Guidance
I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet with every class once a week. During our class time we will learn about interpersonal skills, academic skills such as organization and time management, and other various life skills that will benefit students in the future. In accordance with the Louisville Archdiocese programs, we will also be bringing back the Speak Up Be Safe curriculum for child abuse prevention. All students Pre-K to 8th grade will participate in the Speak Up Be Safe program. In addition to this, the middle school student (grades 6-8) will be participating in the Mindwise Signs of Suicide curriculum again to learn more about suicide prevention. Both of these programs are implemented in all schools within the Archdiocese of Louisville.
New to this year, I will be meeting with the Pre-K students once a month to implement lessons regarding recognizing emotions. Also, this year we will be implementing a brand new Archdiocesan-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) program for all our classes called Friendzy. Please see the Friendzy Classroom Counseling Curriculum page under the Parent Resources tab in the Navigation Bar above for more information.
Individual Sessions
I will be checking in with EVERY student at least twice this year! Once in the fall and once in the spring. Of course, students are always welcome to request an individual session if something arises during the school year. All teachers have copies of a Counselor Meeting Request Form for students to utilize when a problem arises.
Small Groups
I am also offering multiple small groups this year for anyone interested. Small Groups are a great way for students to learn skills in a more personalized way and meet students in other age groups. Please see the Small Groups page under the Groups tab in the Navigation Bar at the top of the page for more information and sign ups.
-Stress Less Group (Offered for K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th)
We will discuss what anxiety is and how to use coping skills to lower stress and anxiety.
-Longhorn Leaders (8th only)
We will talk about what it takes to be a leader and work together to create a project that will take place during the end of the school year.
-NEW! Grief and Loss Group (4th-8th)
We will learn about what grief is and how different people experience and cope with it. Students have experienced death, divorce, or other major changes may benefit from this small group.
Extracurriculars
This year we will be continuing our Mental Health Awareness Club for grades 7 and 8. We discuss the importance of mental health and how to practice self-care. For interested students please see the Mental Health Awareness Club page under the Groups tab in the Navigation Bar for more information and sign ups.

School Mission Statement
As a vital ministry of the Church of the Ascension, our school’s mission is to recognize the uniqueness of all students in a caring, disciplined environment that exemplifies Christ’s command to serve one another. Ascension School fosters excellence in academics and promotes spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth of the whole child.
The faculty, supported by the parish staff, School Board, and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), recognizes that students must be prepared to meet challenges of an ever changing world and to live cooperatively as critical thinkers and problem solvers in a global society. Love of GOD, human dignity, justice, ecumenism, service to others, stewardship, and excellence are among the values lived.
Ascension Vision
The vision of the Ascension staff is to foster a Catholic community that models Jesus’ teaching at home, school and in our community. We strive to ensure an academic program of excellence which challenges each student to achieve his/her maximum potential. Our goal is to expand student involvement in global issues, technology, foreign language, and cultural programs.
