Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary
Have you been in a situation that you find every word is familiar—yet not a single sentence makes sense? This moment reveals something important: reading comprehension isn’t just about knowing words—it’s about understanding how they work together. Vocabulary and reading go hand in hand, especially when it comes to solving problems, following instructions, or drawing meaning from a story or passage.
You can memorize an entire vocabulary book, but if you never use those words, they fade—like ingredients left uncooked. True understanding comes when students can apply vocabulary in context, and guess unfamiliar words using clues from surrounding text.
If reading is building a house, then vocabulary is the bricks. Grammar and sentence structure are the blueprint. Without bricks, there’s no house. Without a blueprint, it’s just a pile of words.
This course helps students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary through structured, level-appropriate lessons. They will learn to:
Use context clues to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words
Identify and interpret details in stories and informational texts to support answers and reasoning
Describe character traits, motivations, and feelings using evidence from the text
Understand how sequence, time, and cause-effect relationships are expressed in informational texts
Develop a deeper grasp of sentence structure: subject-verb-object, parts of speech, and introductory dependent clauses (as appropriate for their level)
