Mining Effects on Lemurs

How Mining Affects Lemurs

Lemurs are an endangered species, and only live in one part of the world -Madagascar. And even there, the lemurs are dying. This page will tell you about how they are dying, and what you can do about it.

Many lemurs are being affected by mining, and not for the better. Mining pollutes the water that lemurs drink into murky, brown, sludge, and also kills many of the fish in the particular rivers. Also, many acres of the forest have been cleared for the mining site, without regard to the cute furry lemurs inside. This forest is the home to many lemurs, and they have been dying out slowly. Furthermore, these animals that people are effectively killing, are only found on this island. There is another problem to be addressed. Many people that live by the forest do not have quite enough food to eat, and they might eat some lemurs or other animals just to stay fed, and that has also been driving the lemur numbers down. There is also illegal pet trade, Which doesn’t help either.

We can help the lemurs by creating food drives for the people who might eat the lemurs, and by petitioning the government to stop the destruction of their habitat due to mining.
