All pupils in S1 attend the Faculty for a period of Business.
Pupils use this period to gain a broad understanding of the business environment, while developing important financial life skills. Pupils will be working through L2 (and in some cases L3) outcomes.
During this topic, pupils will learn all about charities and the important role they play in society. Pupils will look at:
What charities are
Different types of charity
Research partner charities
The fundraising concept
What social enterprises are
To check for understanding of concepts covered, pupils will have several small progress checks. These will be issued at appropriate times in the unit.
As part of this course, there is an element of fundraising. Pupils will be encouraged to raise money for our partner charities; pupils will be assigned one charity for this purpose. If pupils do not take part, they may be given alternative work to complete during specific areas of this unit.
Pupils will gain an understanding of the basics of business. They will do this by looking at:
Needs and wants (and how businesses meet these)
Goods and services
Entrepreneurs
Types of business (sole trader, partnerships, franchises)
To check for understanding of concepts covered, pupils will have two progress checks. These will be issued at appropriate times in the unit.
Pupils will gain an understanding of personal finance, by looking at:
Personal cash budgets
Wages (minimum wage, income tax and national insurance)
Savings (types of account and interest rates)
Borrowing (loans, crefit cards, mortgages)
Further enhancement of Excel skills
