We all rely on businesses to create wealth, prosperity, jobs and choices. Studying Business Management gives you the opportunity to develop important skills such as problem solving, communication, planning and organising. You will learn through real-life business contexts how organisations operate.
These skills are valuable in a wide range of career sectors but are particularly useful if you are interested in entering the world of business — whether as a manager, employee or self-employed person.
SQA offer Business / Business Management at five levels: National 3, National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. The Faculty offer from National 4 to Higher level.
Pupils going into S4 will be recommended for either National 4 Business or National 5 Business Management by their S3 Business teacher - this recommendation is based on class work and assessments that are conducted throughout S3.
All pupils who are entered at National 4 level will be given the opportunity to sit the National 5 Business Management course. Pupils will follow the same timeline, sit the same assessments and be issued the same homework tasks. National 4 pupils will then sit the National 5 prelim, and a final decision will be taken from that point.
Pupils in S4/5/6 who have not done Business Management before can gain entry to N5 Business Management by having a conversation with Mr McNiven. Additionally, pupils in S5/6 who wish to "crash" H Business Management may be able to do so; please see Mr McNiven.
Pupils will be able to progress to to the next level of Business Management after successfully completing the level below.
