Climate for Learning and Restorative Practice

Our school's Climate for Learning refers to the ethos and culture of our school, not only in classrooms, but in social areas and moving around the school, and this ethos and culture extends into our local community.

Positive relationships are key to ensuring a positive learning environment .  GIRFEC underpins all of the work we do as a school, and the positive relationships that we seek to foster and maintain are vital to Getting it Right for Every Child.

Our emphasis on positive relationships of mutual respect is founded in the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child, and the rights set out within it that should be available to all children in order to meet their needs and allow then to reach their full potential.

Our vision, values and aims are summed up by our four Core Values: Commitment, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence, and by our motto, "There is Virtue in Hard Work". These are a fundamental way in which we promote and embed our Positive Climate for Learning, expressing clearly the aspirations we have for all members of our school community.

Our commitment to Restorative Practice is one of the key ways in which we ensure and maintain positive relationships  which are so important to  so many different aspects of our work as a school.

Scholar

Scholar

Scholar is an online teaching and learning initiative run by Heriot Watt University. It currently supports numerous online courses aligned with the Scottish curriculum. Course content includes summary notes, interactive revision questions, extended writing tasks, as well as the running of regular revision webinars.

Pupils in the Senior Phase studying subjects supported on the platform have been given accounts. Logging in will allow you to see the Scholar materials for all of the SQA-aligned subjects that you are studying  that the platform currently supports (i.e. you do not need different login details for your Chemistry or Biology classes).

Pupils in S3 all have been registered with Scholar and have login details.   Pupils can access Scholar directly through their GLOW launchpad without needing their Scholar login details but they can also go to the Scholar website and select to login there with their GLOW details.  If anyone has any difficulties with this they should speak to their subject teacher who will help them out.
