The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a registered charity, funded by donations, Participation Places and licences. The charity works with centres across the UK to increase opportunities for young people to gain the benefits of doing their DofE.
Banff Academy as a Directly Licenced Centre pays a fee of £1368 per year to the Duke of Edinburgh's award.
The school also incurs volunteer staff training costs, per volunteer, which are a requirement in order to run walking expeditions: Lowhills Award £185 initial + £85 refresher (every 5 years); Outdoor First Aid £150 (every 3 years).
There may also be travel costs associated with expeditions and attending training courses.
We believe running the award is of great benefit to our young people. However it is essential that participants realise that if they wish to undertake the award that they can show commitment. Dropping out without reason means funds spent on the award is not of benefit and could have been used elsewhere.
