What is Title 1?

Title 1 is a program through which school districts receive federal funding to provide supplemental instruction for students who qualify. The funds for each school district are based on a state formula that is calculated by the number of students from economically disadvantaged homes. However, Title I services provided with federal funds are based on the academic needs of students. Arts Academy Elementary Charter School is a Title 1 School due to 75% of our families qualifying as economically-disadvantaged.

Title I funds are derived under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and is designed to help students to achieve proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards for their grade level. More than 56,000 public schools across the country receive Title I funds.

Students who qualify for academic support may be served in the areas of Language Arts and/or Mathematics. The goal of the Title I program is to provide the instructional services the students need in order to increase student performance and academic achievement.
