Academic Expectations

Academic Expectations for SAIC Scholars

All SAIC Students, including SAIC Scholars, are expected to familiarize themselves with the Student Rights and Responsibilities, as documented each year in the SAIC Student Handbook, and maintain high standards of personal conduct.  Of particular relevance to a student's academic performance are:

Academic Misconduct and the SAIC Scholars Program

As a community of students focused on shared learning experiences and an equal emphasis on studio work and academic study, SAIC Scholars are expected to hold themselves to the highest individual standards of academic integrity.  Like all SAIC students, Scholars are expected to be familiar with SAIC's Academic Misconduct Policy and avoid engaging in practices (unintentionally or intentionally) which violate SAIC's documented expectations of academic integrity.

Students' continued participation in the SAIC Scholars Program is contingent on their continued demonstration of academic integrity, in their Scholars courses, their courses outside the Scholars Program, and in their experiences as a member of the SAIC community as a whole.

Academic Misconduct-Related Scholars Program Removal

All reports of Academic Misconduct are addressed under the Academic Misconduct Policy and Procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook.

If an SAIC Scholar is formally found to have violated the Academic Misconduct policy, in addition to any sanctions assigned under this policy, they may, at the discretion of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, be removed from further participation in the SAIC Scholars Program.

Any violation of the Academic Misconduct Policy, whether associated with a Scholars course or a non-Scholars-course, may result in removal from the program.

Students who are removed from the Scholars program will not be able to enroll in future Scholars-designated courses, will be dropped from any Scholars-designated courses they may already be enrolled for in a future semester, and will be ineligible to graduate from SAIC with Distinction.

A meeting with a representative of the Undergraduate Dean's Office will take place prior to a decision on program removal being made, and students will be notified of any change in their status in writing.
