Creative Warehouse Trading-Post
This is a project that requires a space for social interaction through art and music. I am speaking of a type of venue that is not like an average concert hall or bar. This is a 3-story building that features a stage, recording studios, a gallery space for installations, and trading post. The building is a brick building reconstructed from parts of historical Chicago, i.e., re-used brick, reclaimed wood etc.
Most of the construction is going to be made out of repurposed materials, aside from the supporting structure, which for safety reasons, might be new material.
The building is not just a building however, it would house a non-profit organization offering art and music opportunities to a local area, this of course has been thought of, possibly done successfully. The location of this place is specific to Chicago, but it could travel to other places. These opportunities include free concerts, fundraising, charitable donations, and possible job opportunities for individuals.
Unlike most places featuring music, there is no cover charge, no ticket price, just a commonplace for artists alike or unique to their own. A space in which skilled trades, such as lutherie and leather-working could be under the same roof, think of a trading post that is geared to creative efforts rather than a typical business. With all of these different trades, genres of art and whatsoever, the building needs to be rather large to have enough room to fit all of the different types of equipment needed. Approximately the size of one half a city block.
The recording Studio is in the basement, down a metal flight of stairs and to the right is an open area, furnished basement, with carpet on all walls, yes including the ceiling.
The first floor is the gallery which also includes the trading post, and the second floor is the concert hall, the third floor is the archives, every bit of information relevant to the goings on in the building would reside on the third floor. This is spaced out proportionally, so that when there is a concert going on, someone could also be recording in the studio below, with connections to a mixing board in the concert hall on the second floor. This allows for live recordings the quality of a professional studio, allowing for opportunities for broke students to record in a place that doesn't sound awful or cost an entire check to rent for the day. The gallery could have a show while someone has a concert at the same time a different group could record in the studio, independently and fully blimped. The walls are insulated with reclaimed bottle caps and paper, condensed with recycled materials and some sort of concrete, soundproofed on each wall, with clear plexiglass, so that anyone can write on the walls and can be easily washed if need be. It may have a rather grungy appearance, but this clear wall is only for the concert hall and won't affect the art downstairs. All in all a great place if it existed, maybe some version of it could be built one day, probably not, but one can hope.

Artist Statement
I am a musician and artist, I work with mediums new and old, my focus in my art revolves around the making of it. The steps involved in my work introduce methods that are spontaneous and unpredictable. This includes manipulating physical film to appear differently, or composing music through improvisation.
I archive various media which becomes a part of a massive library in which I can curate a piece, the materials are sometimes manipulated, or simply arranged. This depends upon the materials used in the project. My films do not feature live actors, the environment is captured, documentation through abstracted visuals. This becomes a process that is repeated several times, or becomes a singular moment that is captured. Recording audio of band practicing or jams is a part of the archival process, the recordings are dated with a brief description or word to describe the contents. I use different mediums that are recorded, most of the art that I create is not visual. I create soundscapes, scores, experimental pieces, and a few “contemporary and newer” songs.
Using other digital means and analog methods, I am able to blend processes that can attribute to the sonic nature of the work. This process that I use, can vary, often it does to suit the materials or concept. I have worked with ideas in mind but not directly representative in the art, my strength is creating things for their tactile or visceral constructions of space through sound. My visual work revolves around abstraction of environment and landscape, what I have painted is entirely abstract with no desire to replicate the perfect anything. The Imperfections in film, for example, is one in-perfect thing that is not replicable. This is why I enjoy working with real film. Each frame captured is unique to itself, and is a tactile experience.
