The international theme forum of Connected Week 2023, 'More-than-Human World,' aims to explore the possibilities of coexistence with various non-human entities beyond humans, including the technological environment, in the context of the 21st-century focal point of post-anthropocentrism. It seeks to examine how art can respond to contemporary issues environmentally, culturally, and socially, from the perspectives of various experts such as ecologists, sociologists, and artists.
🟢Section 1: More than Nature: Connections to Ecology 🟢
Through the ecological concept of "decomposition," we will point out the dangers of a world where nothing decays (Fujihara Tatsushi), introduce a cloud-watching activity that reminds us that we all share the same sky in an era of conflict and division (Gavin Prater-Finney), and talk about architectural practices for the environment in an era of climate crisis (Namjoo Kim).
🟢Section 2: More than Society: Interdependent Coexistence🟢
We will discuss Donna Haraway's feminism as a co-constructed history of dogs via cyborgs (Yumi Choi), introduce an ecological futurist project to realize a multi-species coexistence in urban artificial ecosystems (Neal White), and look at inclusive art and education practices that question biases about the bodies, perceptions, and social conditions of art-goers (Yeseul Song).
🟢Section 3: More than Technology: Expanding beyond Technology🟢
Through examples of collaborations with artificial intelligence, we propose a variety of experiments in which large-scale language models help us discover latent spaces in language that we have not yet seen, new insights and possibilities (Youngjin Oh). In addition, we will discuss the coevolution of man and machine through works that express the instinct to "humanize" machines by building them with human shapes (Jinah Roh), and introduce artistic practices that renew our awareness of the ecosystems we live in by combining artificial ecosystems that recreate complexity with inspiration from nature and the theory of cybernetics that runs through them (Haru Ji).

At Connected Showcase, we introduce the creative results of the 2023 AC-CAVE Creative Lab. The AC-CAVE Creative Lab is a program that supports the planning, development, and presentation stages of convergence art projects based on AC-CAVE's 3-sided projection space. The 2023 AC-CAVE Creative Lab includes participation from the interactive audiovisual performance team "DotDot" and the interactive game exhibition team "YEPS."
Date:
14:00 and 16:00, Sunday, November 12, 2023: Performance 1/75/75/75, Dot-Dot
14:00~21:00, Monday, November 13, 2023: Exhibition PWP (Pigeon Wants Peace), YEPS
Venue:
AC-CAVE (Room 104, Changjogwan, Seokgwan-dong Campus, Korea National University of Arts)
Detailed Program
Interactive audiovisual performance 1/75/75/75, Dot-Dot (Jiyeon Kim, carmini(Min-hwi Cha))
Performance schedule: 14:00, 16:00 / Sunday, November 12, 2023
· 1/75/75/75: 1/75 quantifies the value of a 'moment' and interprets AC-Cave as an organism connecting different spacetimes, showing a performance where three entities meet as one moment. These three fleeting moments are interconnected and balanced, representing 'the moment of virtual space overlapping with actual space,' 'the moment mapped with sound on top of it,' and 'the movement of a third non-human existence generated by space and sound.'
· Dot-Dot is a collective of two individuals who have been experimenting with a multifaceted sense of spacetime since 2022. It consists of Jiyeon Kim (Graduate of the Department of Architecture) visualizing temporality based on real and virtual spaces as an interactive medium, and Min-hwi Cha (Current student of the Department of Music Technology) linking music as temporal art with spatial dimensions. Dot-Dot explores and reconfigures various forms based on the spatial and temporal complexity inherent in the space.
Interactive game exhibition PWP(Pigeon Wants Peace), YEPS(In-young Kim, Jihyun Park, Taeyang Yoo, Soobin Lee)
Exhibition schedule: 14:00~21:00 / Monday, November 13, 2023
· PWP(Pigeon Wants Peace) depicts the adventures of a virtual pigeon in search of food to become part of a healthy ecosystem. The audience continues the narrative by allowing the game's pigeon to obtain food and items through physical interaction. PWP was inspired by the phrase "A pigeon that finds food on its own becomes part of a healthy ecosystem" written on a "no pigeon feeding" sign. What constitutes a healthy ecosystem? Are humans part of a healthy ecosystem? Based on the question of whether pigeons want to be part of a healthy ecosystem, Team YEPS created an interactive game. The act of avoiding or chasing away the audience's pigeons paradoxically prompts reflections on the coexistence of non-humans and humans, considering each perspective on cohabitation.
· YEPS was formed in 2019 with the goal of studying programming together and has been involved in various interactive media projects. In 2020, they held exhibitions such as "Unseen, Invisible," "Dolgoji Ghost Map," and in 2021, "Village, Wishes, Shrine," aiming to allow people to see and experience various aspects of the unseen in society through their work.
