Studio Full Option is a team of three artists using text, image, and sound as their main mediums. It was founded in 2019 by graphic designer Hyeongdo Kim and novelist Yunyi Ham and has contributed to the experimental literature project P!ng in the webzine View of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture. After the visual artist Ahmyeong Joo who works with 3D moving images and sound joined the team in 2021, the studio plans to create even more colorful projects.
Studio Full Option seeks a new creative methodology through mistranslations that occur during collaboration. It explores each form of expression in text, image and sound media, and pays attention to the possibilities of creation that expand when they translate and distort each other. In this exhibition, they present the connection and confusion between three media through the art game project <Holiday in Moscow>.
<Holiday in Moscow>
<Holiday In Moscow> is an art game project tracking down the criminal Domyeong Lee who went missing. Visitors joining the game are thrown into the virtual world in an “empty” state without a body. While players can move only when being possessed by objects from the game map, they simultaneously have to acquire hints made of text, images and sound as a detective chasing after Domyeong Lee.
Moscow, where the game is set, is a city full of traces of (failed or continued) revolutions in both reality and the game. Clues scattered throughout the city run through the story of the revolution and hints at the location of Domyeong Lee, or that of the next clue. In the process of navigating every corner of the city in search of clues, the “multi-persona” of the detective (player) gradually multiplies and expands. The visitor can ask what constitutes their (player) identity in the “bodiless” persona the player acquires.
