Lost Air is an art group formed by four artists who share thoughts regarding the “space,” Starting their activity at the “Daegongbunsil” abandoned building on the campus of the Korea National University of Art, they work to renovate neglected spaces through the form of collective activities with artists from various fields. To name the team, they divided the word “DaeGongBunSil” to “DaeGong” and “BunSil” and recombined them as BunSilDoenDaeGong, then had it machine-translated and decided on the team title as “Lost Air.” Four members, Jooyoung Park, Minju Park, Dayoung Lee, and Wookyung Lee, added the intention in the team’s name to transform a neglected space into a space for art and not to limit the character of the space. Lost Air is a team in constant action and they plan to organize new events every month and suggest refreshing experiences.
<Binary Quarantine>
Lost Air conceived <Binary Quarantine> to observe the dynamics of human in space and transform it into the environment. They built data from the movements of people responding to the performance and aimed to create a kind of changing space reflecting the data, an environment for the “Human Scale - Synoptic Scale.” Here, DJ’s performances create the atmosphere of space and the movement of people. There is a booth, personal and public space, on the stage, reflecting the “social distancing” of contemporary society. The central area seen from the booth becomes a stage for the party or the square for pedestrians. The two states of “separate” but “together” are measured by the Kinect sensor. The movement of people measured by the sensor is converted into data as a parameter and a function is calculated, then the lighting or image is set to respond depending on this value, large or small. The stage diversely changes according to whether there are people in the booth or in the middle of the square, and how dynamic or static the movements are. As the human movement (Human Scale) appears as sound and light dominating the space, the site is filled with turbulence (Synoptic Scale) created by the members of this space.
