DOI (Data of Interest) is a group of three members, data-based designer Boyeong Im, media artist Dayoung Lee, and sound artist Jiwon Lee, sharing interests in making a data-based artistic value. As most of the world is operated by data in the digital age, data is an important basis to understand the world. Translating the data in a way that enables understanding through the senses of sight and hearing helps to reach a different appreciation and insight, compared to encountering it with digitized text. DOI works on artistic works that evoke the interests of people by transferring digitized data into a form that can be appreciated through the senses.
<ARchitecture of DMZ>
<ARchitecture of DMZ> is an AR (Augmented Reality)-based work, which proposes to explore from a new perspective by visualizing and audioizing the data of biological members such as animals and plants that make up the DMZ. Each petri dish that composes the work contains a visualized image of DNA sequences that represent the characteristics of a species living in the DMZ. Audioized sound of the DNA sequence is available by recognizing this image through the AR app on the provided iPad. Also, by moving along the line connecting the petri dishes attached to the wall, it is possible to explore the food chain among the organic members of the DMZ. This work demonstrates that the genetic structure of organisms on a micro-scale to the structure of ecosystems on a macro-scale could be synaesthetically experienced through media and suggests a new category of human scale.
