The 2018 <Collider Workshop> held by the Center for Art Convergence presented two workshops focusing on “connectivity,” which is the fundamental basis for physical computing and interactive media.
In the “Arduino Communication Module” session organized by media artist and maker Joosun Hwang, we tried to implement a communication-network with objects based on a car robot kit, and participants obtained basic skill sets to accommodate interactive media projects.
In the “Unity Controller” session organized by creative developer Subong Jeong, participants learned how to connect with Unity by making an Arduino input device (controller) and reinforced the understanding of interactive media through a team project.
Arduino Communication Module Session
This workshop focuses on Arduino Robotics and Communication-Network. Participants learned how to use a motor and experimented with driving algorithms based on a robot car kit that can be controlled with Arduino. Moreover, they expanded their horizons on physical computing by adding various input/output devices. In addition, this workshop implemented wired and wireless communication and networks between robots and robots or between robots and PCs, promoting basic skills to perform comprehensive interactive media projects by complementarily connecting various devices.
Throughout the workshop, participants worked on a sample project to digest the basic process of physical computing. In the later part, they freely implemented their creations by working on a team (or individual) project.

Unity Controller Session
In this workshop, the values transferred by connecting the Arduino were received from Unity, and the values of Unity are controlled. Participants understood interactive media by making input devices using Arduino and various sensors and learning how to connect with Unity. In the second half of the workshop, participants tried to complete one outcome as a team.
