Team Hail

Team Hail is a collective of an artist and a curator, composed of Hanna Woo (School of Visual Arts) and Leehyeon Park (School of Film, TV&Multimedia). Hanna Woo has been interested in city life and working on creating stories based on various media. Leehyeon Park works across various activities such as criticism, planning, and creation, using records as the key word. Team Hail held an exhibition, City Units, at Chokchoktumyeong-gack last September. It was a project to weave the city with the artist’s “viewpoint” with the rooftop of Wuhanna’s studio, located in Euljiro, as the center. On the other hand, Hail’s City Units: Re-foundation is a kind of remix work for City Units. In this project, Haeil attempts exhibition-criticism using an exhibition format rather than text, and also expands the sense of sight, which refers to the viewpoint, to other senses such as the sense of hearing, to reassemble the figures in the city in a heterogeneous way.

When participating in the open call, we were not only interested in what curators and artists exchanged in a single exhibition using terms like perspective, city, and urban sensibility, but we also wanted to explore how visual and auditory elements in criticism, project statements, or artworks harmonized, interfered with, intersected, and permeated each other.

We assumed the (im)possibilities of convergence art.

Since art is named as a subtitle or genre after a kind of purification process, convergence art is already possible before purification and can only become (contemporary) art through purification. Therefore, we believe that what is already impossible is another assumption. Another assumption is the role-play between curators and artists.In September, we held the exhibition 「City Units」 with the center being the rooftop of Hanna Woo's studio 'Chokchoktumyeonggak' in Euljiro, where we clustered installation works as one unit for the city while simultaneously highlighting the city with a unit of perspective as an alien sensation.
The 「City Units : Re-foundation」 presented in the Center for Art Convergence's November exhibition/performance program was an attempt at a kind of remix of the previous 「City Units」 from September. In literature, the medium used for criticism and the medium being criticized are often the same, but in film and art, this is not often the case. Therefore, we attempted criticism of the exhibition using the exhibition format. Additionally, we planned to extend the concept of perspective, a visual term, to other senses such as hearing to reassemble the urban images in an unfamiliar way. Although there were ideas that couldn't be realized due to technical limitations, we observed that the context of the artworks changed through the transition from a specific location in Seoul's Euljiro to an abstract space called the white cube gallery.
