In 2015 - 2016 Wildwood students were outraged that the Caldecott Committee was (and still is) only made up of adult judges. They decided they needed to do something about it!
The Best of Wildwood Award began that same year. Only kids were (and still are) allowed to vote. Up until 2021, only Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students could vote. Our 3rd grade classes create the judging criteria and last year they decided to let all grade levels vote.

Wildwood Students explore book design and the the literary elements of plot, characters, setting and theme by reading the newest and critically acclaimed picture books during the fall semester.
The Caldecott Award is given each year by the American Library Association to the most distinguished picture book for children.
Best of Wildwood invites our students to evaluate picture books based on criteria that they determine. See the slideshow above for past criteria.
