Timetable

Uniform

Students are ambassadors for the College and are expected to wear their uniform with pride. The students are encouraged to understand that the uniform identifies them as members of the Arndell College Community and in Year 5, all students are leaders by example. Encouraging your children to value their uniform will prove helpful in developing the high personal standard.

The College hat is an essential element of the uniform for all Junior School students. Year 5 students must wear a hat before school, at recess, lunch play and during outdoor lessons at school. Students are also required to wear the Arndell sport socks with a red and blue stripe for sport and PE sessions. These can also be purchased from the Uniform Shop. We would reiterate the need to have all uniform and personal items clearly named. Please see further information in the General Information Tab in regards to Uniform. 

NAPLAN 2023

‘NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.’ (NAP Website 2023). Arndell will hold their NAPLAN exams from Wednesday 15th March to Wednesday 22nd March.  

During Term 1 2023, Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate NAPLAN preparation and testing. The NAPLAN 2023 tests have been scheduled earlier in the year for all schools this year (see schedule). Our aim is for this to be a positive opportunity for students to demonstrate ‘Where am I now?’ on their individual learning journey whilst also gathering data to guide differentiated support and future planning.

Homework

Homework is intentionally planned to connect with the teaching and learning program explored in class. The homework provides opportunity for students to extend their thinking and skill development providing self direction and choice within a clearly guided framework. Homework will run on a weekly cycle. Homework will be sent home each Monday to be returned the following Monday.  Students are welcome to negotiate an adjustment to the cycle to cater for personal organisation and time management. Please refer to the detailed outline of homework within this booklet. Sharing the outline with your children will help to reinforce in class instruction and further develop awareness.

Homework will be online via Seesaw and will commence Monday in Week 3.

Information Technology

The College’s commitment to the Laptop one to one initiative, provides an exciting opportunity for learning. Stage 3 are looking forward to furthering the integration of technology as a tool for teaching and learning across the curriculum. The SAMR Model provides an excellent framework for planning and student learning where we can question how best to engage with the ever changing and evolving new technology available via applications. Also, by moving to a Windows based laptop device students in Stage 3 will be provided with the opportunity to begin their technological transition to a Senior School focused environment. To this end, students in Year 5 will take their laptops home each day from Term 3 and can complete home learning tasks set by their teachers. When this occurs, laptops must return each day fully charged and students are to bring their chargers to school each day. There are very strict guidelines and policies in place for using any technological devices provided by the school and these can be found in the General Information tab.

Student Personal Phones/Devices

We understand that some students will require a personal device for before and after school arrival procedures. At the beginning of each day, students will be asked to switch off and hand their phone to their class teacher who will keep the phone safe for the day. Students will then receive their phone at the end of the day and will have a short period of time to confirm any changes to afternoon routines before promptly putting their phones back into their bags. No student should be using their phone on the playground at any time. Students with "smart" watches will need to ensure connected devices are off and messaging features disabled during the school day.

Hills Zone Weekly Sport Competition

Stage 3 students will have the opportunity to trial for the an Arndell Representative Team that participates in the Hills Zone Sports Association competition on Wednesdays each semester. Students will have multiple try out sessions provided by staff and, if selected, are expected to express the Core Values of our College at all times. The sports change regularly each year and students will be made aware of these opportunities in due course. Students not selected for a representative team compete in various sports in House Teams for the coveted House Cup. 

Lake Macquarie Camp

Arndell Anglican College Junior School partners with Crusaders Christian Youth Organisation for our camps. This year, Students in Year 5 will enjoy an excellent camp experience at the Crusader's Lake Macquarie Camp site from 22nd November to 24th November. More details to come. 

LOTE

Students in Stage 3 will take part in weekly lessons in French as they continue to explore the language and culture of other countries in our world. These sessions will be taught by the Senior School LOTE Department.
