Allan Litman was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and spent thirty years in Los Angeles and ten years in Maui, Hawaii, before settling in Mesquite in 2004. He entered the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam from 1966–1967, earning a Bronze Star for valor and an Air Medal for his participation in numerous combat missions with the 1st Cavalry (Airmobile) Division.
Following his military service, Allan Litman taught public school for eighteen years and later joined the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University. He earned a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision and completed his doctoral studies in Institutional Management. In 1984, he transitioned from education to entrepreneurship, founding an automobile service company that he operated until his retirement in 1994, when he moved to Hawaii. After a brief retirement, he returned to work by opening a practice focused on Child and Family Psychotherapy and Autism consulting. He retired again in 2004 and relocated to Mesquite.
In 2011, Allan Litman was elected to the Mesquite City Council to fill a two-year term and was re-elected in 2013. On May 13, 2014, he was appointed Mayor of Mesquite. He was subsequently re-elected multiple times, serving as mayor until 2024.
As Mayor, Allan Litman represented Mesquite on the Regional Flood Control District Board, the Regional Transportation Commission, and the Civilian Military Council at Nellis Air Force Base. He also previously served as a director on the Southern Nevada Health District Board.
