Below are learning assignments to be done at home before practices, and a description of what we did in practices. It will be in reverse order, with oldest at bottom, newest at top. New students: start at the bottom and work up.
We'll be assigning more learning to be done at home this year, as we have limited time together, and our crowded classroom is not as good an environment as your home for deep thinking. We'll keep our in-person meetings for more team activities such as drawing visualizations and practicing Team Round problem solving together.
We looked at these slides, and went through this corresponding handout.
Then we drew pictures to visually explain (without letters or numerals) the commutative law of multiplication, using the example:
5 times 3 = 3 times 5
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 5 + 5 + 5
