This public notice was written and created by the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission and approved by the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law in April 2025. It is intended to help both court staff and the public understand the important difference between legal information and legal advice.
While many courthouses display signs that simply state "No Legal Advice," this notice offers more clarity. It explains what clerks can do—like providing forms or helping people navigate the court system—and what they cannot do, such as interpreting the law or advising someone on what to say in court. The goal is to promote better communication and empower both the public and court staff with shared expectations.
We encourage clerks and court administrators to print and post this notice in visible areas of their offices. It is available in multiple colors to suit your office’s preferences.
