Almost all presentations/talks will be short (5 minutes plus 2 minutes for questions).
Speakers from related departments/units are welcome (students and faculty in CBC, LPL/Planetary Sciences, Physics, James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences, COE, etc.). Staff are also encouraged to present.

Our meetings typically last an hour and consist of students giving presentations for various segments that highlight active research people are working on, current news in astronomy, astrophotography, and more. Outside of club meetings, we also have social events, such as star parties on Mount Lemmon, movie nights, game nights, and craft nights.
On behalf of Physicists for Inclusion & Equity (PIE), we'd like to give a warm (Tucson) welcome to the incoming cohorts of grads and undergrads, and say welcome back to everyone else! For all our lovely new folks, PIE is a student-led club that serves as a forum for underrepresented groups and gender minorities in the physics community. We aim to promote an inclusive and respectful atmosphere in the department (and beyond) through physics education and outreach events. If you'd like to get involved with us, please add yourself to our email chain and/or hop on our Discord server!
Aside from weekly meetings, here's a peek at some events we have in store for the semester (more details will be relayed through the PIE email chain + Discord):
Cultural Events: Learn about traditions, history, and food from fellow physicists!
Pizza & Profs: Eat some 'za and get to know different physics faculty members.
Yap About Physics (YAP): A physics journal club geared toward undergrads!
Slice of Pie: Learn about your colleagues' nerdy (not-necessarily-physics) interests! (Contact one of our officers if you have a special interest to share and we'll put you on the schedule.)
Oodles of outreach opportunities: Volunteer at various physics-education events for K-12 students and members of the public!
FREE HELP SESSIONS!!!
Need help with your homework or getting ready for Quizzes and Exams? Use your time efficiently by studying with Steward Graduate Teaching Assistants who are available to help you.
ATOMM offers FREE HELP SESSION for Astronomy students in ASTR 170H, 250, 300A and 300B (and potentially other astro and physics courses).
Thursday Evenings // SUNSET // UA MALL BY LIBRARY
You are welcome to observe the sky, and interact together, every Thursday night on the UA mall by the Main Library. Dr. Don McCarthy (Astronomy Prof. and former Director of the Undergraduate Program) enjoys providing this opportunity for anyone interested. Experience the day/night sky, see some unusual phenomena, and, especially, interact informally with each other about life, courses, research, observing equipment, hobbies, STEM opportunities, etc. Lots of fun, laughter, good advice, and a great way to unwind near the end of a long week.
Come for any amount of time, relax, and even eat pizza. We begin prior to sunset and continue until ~8 PM.
To receive weekly text-reminders (timing, weather cancellations, special events, etc.), please go to Remind.com, create an account or download the "app." Then, select 'add a class' and choose one of these two 'class codes': 'astrobs' or 'astrobs2'. 'astrobs' or 'astrobs2'.
For questions, please email Dr. Don McCarthy - mccarthd@arizona.edu
