Before starting this course, we expect you to have little to no background in cosmology, math, Python coding, or physics. Unit 0 is intended to get you up-to-speed on the necessities of these topics. All you need to succeed in this course is:
A solid foundation of Algebra and Geometry
A curiosity about the universe
We will go over everything else along the way.
To participate in this course, you will need to set up a Google account. There will be some Google Colaboratory notebooks interspersed in the lessons that will need to be copied to your drive. These will help you learn coding while learning about the cosmos. You can set up an account here.
The notebooks and materials necessary for completing this course are located in a Google Drive folder. Please copy the the contents of this folder to your Google Drive before getting started. To do this, download the files in this folder and upload them to your own Google Drive. Some things may break when you're running a Colab notebook if you don't do this step and we will often need the materials in this drive!
There will be some videos, interactive modules, and quizzes that would also require having a Google Account. These activities are meant to allow you to connect with your peers from around the globe to discuss the topics in this course as well as test your understanding. Of course, you will not receive a 'grade' from this course on any quiz that you complete, but your responses can optionally be sent to you or an instructor for your records. These activities will be highlighted in the site, like this paragraph.
