Cody Alarcón, Director of Choirs

Mr. Cody Alarcon is entering his 11th year as a choral educator and is honored to serve as the founding Director of Choirs at Scott Gibson Middle School in Argyle ISD. A native of Austin, Texas, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education from the University of North Texas.

Throughout his career, Mr. Alarcon has taught students in grades 6–12 across seven schools in four Texas school districts, building thriving choral programs centered on musical excellence, student leadership, and a love for singing. Choirs under his direction have consistently earned Superior Ratings at the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation.

His dedication to music education has been recognized with numerous honors, including being named Beginning Teacher of the Year at Creekview High School (Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD) in 2016. In 2025, he had the privilege of co-directing an invited performing choir at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention with Jasper High School (Plano ISD). The following year, he was honored as a PTA Lifetime Member by Jasper High School in recognition of his service to students and the school community. Mr. Alarcon has also been invited on multiple occasions to conduct TMEA Region Choirs across Texas.

In addition to his work in public education, Mr. Alarcon serves as the Children's Music Director and Bass Section Leader at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church in Plano. He is an active member of both the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Outside the classroom, Mr. Alarcon enjoys traveling the world with his sister, cooking new creations in the kitchen, attending live shows and concerts, and making memories with his two nephews, Oliver (9) and Arthur Cody (6).

As Gibson Middle School opens its doors for the very first time, Mr. Alarcon is thrilled to help establish a tradition of excellence from day one. He believes every student has the ability to achieve musical success and is passionate about helping young singers develop confidence, artistry, and a lifelong love of choral music.

Genevieve Cardos, Voice Instructor

Dr. Genevieve Cardos is a mezzo-soprano and voice instructor currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance at the University of North Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, and her Master of Music from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

An accomplished performer, Genevieve has appeared in numerous opera productions throughout her career. Most recently, she performed with the University of North Texas Opera in That Hellbound Train, Proving Up, and Aleko, and has understudied roles in Cendrillon and Hänsel und Gretel. Previous operatic credits include Amahl and the Night Visitors, Little Women, Don Pasquale, and Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury. She has also been featured in solo and choral performances across the country, including appearances with Arts After Dark in Eugene, Oregon.

Beginning in the 2026–2027 season, Genevieve will join the Dallas Opera Auxiliary Chorus, performing in Puccini's Turandot and Wagner's Lohengrin.

As a teacher, Genevieve is passionate about helping singers build healthy vocal technique, develop confidence, and discover their unique artistic voice. She enjoys working with students of all experience levels and is committed to helping each singer reach their highest musical potential through thoughtful instruction and encouraging mentorship.

Jeanne Lancaster, Voice Instructor

Jeanne Lancaster is an experienced voice instructor with more than 15 years of teaching experience, helping singers of all ages build healthy technique, confidence, and a lifelong love of music. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from George Mason University and has also studied both the Suzuki Method and the Kodály approach to music education.

Throughout her career, Jeanne has trained and performed in a wide variety of musical styles, including Broadway, classical, opera, jazz, and folk music. Her diverse performance experience includes appearances in choral ensembles, musical theater productions, operas, and theatrical performances, allowing her to guide students in developing both strong vocal technique and expressive artistry.

Jeanne is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and is committed to lifelong learning, continually seeking opportunities to grow as both a performer and educator.

As a teacher, Jeanne strives to create a positive, encouraging environment where every student feels supported and challenged. She is passionate about helping singers achieve their individual goals, develop confidence on and off the stage, and build the musicianship needed for lasting success.

Jennifer Watson, Voice Instructor

Jennifer Watson is a soprano and voice instructor with extensive experience as a performer, educator, and stage director. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance at the University of North Texas, where she serves as a Voice Teaching Fellow. She earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and her Bachelor of Music Education from Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating magna cum laude.

Jennifer has taught voice at both the collegiate and private levels, serving as an adjunct voice professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Rose State College. In addition to applied voice instruction, she has taught courses in diction, song literature, opera, music history, and the arts, giving her a broad perspective on vocal performance and musicianship.

An accomplished performer, Jennifer has appeared in numerous operatic productions and concert performances, including roles in Die Fledermaus, Die Zauberflöte, and The Consul. She is also an experienced opera director, having directed and assistant-directed multiple productions while pursuing her doctoral studies at the University of North Texas.

As a teacher, Jennifer is passionate about helping singers discover their unique voice while building healthy vocal technique, expressive artistry, and lasting confidence. She is dedicated to creating an encouraging and inspiring learning environment where students of every experience level can thrive and reach their highest musical potential.
