Three reasons to take Design & Technology
Design and Technology is about creativity and design flair alongside a high standard of making skills. It will involve you solving design problems using your own ideas and initiative.
This will be backed up by your independent application of theoretical knowledge gained through practical experience and the challenges of a variety of projects. You will have the opportunity to use our advanced laser machines and 3D printers.
All of your work will be related to real life and actual design situations so you can put your learning into context. Your final design task is linked to a given brief with the target market being identified. You will be given the freedom to modify your solution, allowing you to play to your own personal strengths.

Course content
The learning is mainly based around hands-on activities which involve a mixture of graphics, CAD/CAM and practical work.
You will get the opportunity to work with a wide range of materials, mainly different types of board, styrofoam and foamboard, and processes such as ther laser cutter, 3D printers and the vinyl cutter, which will enable you to enhance the theoretical knowledge covered in lessons through practice. You will be given the option to specialise in Paper and Board in year 11 through accomplishing a major project.
Many projects are student driven which will mean you can focus on your own personal interests and build these into the work you produce.
Future career/progression possibilities
A-Level Product Design. Apprenticeship in design engineering. Higher Education studying architecture, graphic, product, industrial or engineering design.
