Summer School

We are pleased to confirm that we will be able to go ahead with the Summer School for our new Year 7 pupils; as previously advised, this will be running from Tuesday 22nd July through to Friday 25th July at Arden Academy.  The Summer school will be led by Mr Luton (Head of our new Year 7s) and he will have a team of Arden teachers and associate staff to support the Summer School programme.   

Here is some information from Mr Luton about the Summer School:  

Summer School, for our new Year 7 pupils, is such a fantastic opportunity to meet others in this new year group, ready for the new academic year.  During the week the activities available will allow pupils to develop their teambuilding, communication and social skills, through a variety of practical and theoretical problem-solving scenarios. 

The timings for each day are 9.15am to 2:30pm; pupils will be involved in four different activities per day, e.g. tower building, glow in the dark dodgeball, aeroplane challenge, and much more.  

The provisional timetable is:  

9:15am - meet/register  

9:30am – 9:45am – introduction to the day  

9:45am – 10:30am - Session 1  

10:30am – 11:30am – Session 2  

11:30am -12:30pm LUNCH   

(pupils need to bring a packed lunch)  

12:30pm - 1:30pm - Session 3  

1:30pm - 2:30pm -Session 4  

2:30pm – end of day/dismissed  

During the week the pupils will have lots of opportunities to earn their Arden P.R.I.D.E* badge which they can proudly display on their blazer in September.    

For those children who are unable to join us, please don’t worry as there will be lots of other opportunities to earn a P.R.I.D.E badge when you join us for Year 7 and, of course, you will be able to meet new people and make friends at the Induction Day and when you start in September.  

*P.R.I.D.E is the acronym we use to describe learning behaviours we expect to see in our students:  

P – participation  

R – respect  

I – independence  

D – determination (dedication)  

E – energy
