How do I qualify for an internal Senior Exemption with the Archdiocese of Baltimore?
Senior Exemption Requirements:
55 or older OR 25 years of experience teaching in public or nonpublic schools.
If you have never been licensed as an educator according to the MSDE, you do not qualify for Senior Exemption.
You also do not quality for internal Senior Exemption if you have an expired teaching license.

What is the process for submitting an internal Senior Exemption?
Process for Submitting:
If you meet the requirements, you may access the Senior Exemption Form linked above. Please read through the entire document carefully. School Counselors are not exempt from earning the additional requirements for counselors.
Fill out the Internal Senior Exemption Form and ask your principal to sign the document.
Send the document via email to Jane McClure jmcclure@archbalt.org. Ms. McClure will obtain a superintendent signature from Sister Patricia McCarron. Ms. McClure will make a copy and send this back to you.
It is your responsibility to upload this signed document into your UKG file once you have received a copy of the document back from Ms. McClure with a superintendent signature. To upload, go to the “Licenses” tab, click on “Add Licenses/Certifications”.
Now, fill out the information as you see below. Your dates will be different! This internal Senior Exemption form is good for 5 years. Then, you will need to renew by submitting another document.

Frequently Asked Questions - Senior Exemptions
When should I submit the internal Senior Exemption?
You may submit the internal Senior Exemption within 90 days of the end of your 5-year validity cycle.
Will I still have an active teaching license according to the state of Maryland?
No. Your teaching license will expire according to the state of Maryland.
This will not impact salary or employment in the Archdiocese of Baltimore if approved by your principal and the superintendent.
If you decide that you would like to leave the AOB and teach at a public school, you would have to reinstate your license, which would require you to earn 90 points on an Individual Professional Development Plan.
Does this mean I don’t have to participate in professional development?
No. Even with a Senior Exemption, Archdiocese of Baltimore employees are required to continue participating in professional development through coursework, Archdiocesan Professional Development Days, and other approved opportunities.
These activities must be listed on the internal Senior Exemption Form when applying.
Will I need to submit my Senior Exemption form to MSDE?
No. After July 1, 2025, MSDE will no longer be accepting Senior Exemptions from employees in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
