Goucher College’s Graduate Programs in Education
Goucher College has a long and successful history of training educators within and outside of the state of Maryland. Goucher College has long been a leader in working with conditionally certified educators as they begin or continue their teaching careers and enter into a graduate program that will put them onto the licensure pathway. Our courses are offered in a variety of learning modalities including online, in-person, hybrid, and accelerated online. We are also pleased to offer educators who are employed full-time and part-time within the Archdiocese of Baltimore a discount off the published per credit tuition rate. The discount is 50% for teachers in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
As Goucher has worked with conditional teachers for decades, should a teacher educator be employed within their grade band and subject area for licensure, they may complete their internship using their current position (for example, a teacher educator seeking licensure in history (grades 7-12) may complete the internship with their current employment if they are assigned a teaching load in history within grades 9-12, but not if they are teaching English grades 9-12 or history grades 1-6). Permission from the current principal acknowledging that the internship may be completed using current employment with supervision by a Goucher supervisor is required to use current employment to complete the internship.
The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program is designed for those seeking initial licensure in Maryland. The M.A.T. will provide students with an innovative curriculum, hands-on teaching experiences, and pathways to enhance their careers as effective educators. We are pleased to offer seven (7) specializations: Elementary Education (grades 1-6), Elementary Special Education (grades 1-8), Dual Elementary Education (grades 1-6) and Special Education (grades 1-8), Secondary Content Areas (grades 7-12), Secondary Special Education (grades 6-adult), Dual Secondary Education (grades 7-12) and secondary Special Education (grades 6-adult), and and Specials (grades preK-adult, including ESOL, performing arts, and world languages).
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) with specializations tailored for professionals in K-12 settings enhance your skills and advance your career in education. The seven (7) specializations are: At-Promise & Diverse Learners, Athletic Program Leadership & Administration, ESOL - Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages for Licensed Teachers (MSDE-approved program for endorsement in ESOL), Literacy Strategies for Content Learning, Reading Instruction (MSDE-approved program for Reading Specialist endorsement), School Improvement Leadership (MSDE-approved program for Administrator endorsement), and Special Education for Licensed Teachers (MSDE-approved program for endorsement in special education).
