We understand that encouraging your students to develop professionally is a vital aspect of enhancing experiential learning. Our office is here to support you! Whether you are a professor teaching a course this semester, a staff member looking to improve your student staff's experience, or a coach/mentor ready to inspire your mentees, we have you covered.
All faculty and staff must complete the Career Collaboration Request form to have one of our Career Center staff present.
Workshop duration includes 60 or 75 minutes, except for the Career Development overview which lasts 15-20 minutes. We encourage you to choose the duration time that works best with your needs and the course format. Workshop format options include either In-person (Azusa Campus) or virtual. Many of our popular workshops are also recorded, which works best for asynchronous courses or assignments.
We are happy to discuss how we can adapt or enhance presentations to fit your unique students/course. Please send us an email if you have more questions at career@apu.edu.

If you are planning this semester's curriculum consider making it an assignment or for extra! Here are some options we have supported in the past:
Visit Our Office for a Resume or Cover Letter Appointment
This option is our most popular and can look like having students schedule an appointment to get feedback.
Visit Our Office for a Mock Interview Appointment
This option is great for our Juniors and Seniors who are beginning to apply to internships, jobs, or graduate school programs and need support in building their communication and self-advocacy skills.
Visit Our Office for a PathwayU Appointment
This option is best suited for students who are in their Freshman or Sophomore level course and are deciding on a major or track to discover aspects of themselves that can aid in education and career development.
Attend A Scheduled Workshops
This option is great to assign for extra credit or if you are open to them attending later in the semester. We typically host 2-3 workshops throughout the semester in conjunction with our Fall and Spring fairs.
Attend a Career or Grad School Fair
This option is great to assign to Juniors and Seniors who are taking steps in their career post-grad, although anyone is welcome to join. We typically host 1-2 in the middle of the semester, October for Fall and February for Spring.
Need proof?
Our office typically provides proof to the student or faculty/staff member (upon request) to confirm that they attend their appointment or one of our workshops/events.
Students' appointment status will be shown as "Completed" on their Past Appointment list via Handshake.
If the student did not attend the status would show as "No Show" or "Canceled".
An "Approved" appointment is not a confirmation that the student attended, it is merely stating the appointment is scheduled.
If the student attended in person a staff member will either stamp or sign on their printed copy of the Resume/Cover Letter/Notes.
We always follow up with the student via their APU email to provide additional resources and comments covered in the appointment. These emails always come from Career@apu.edu.
If the student attended a workshop we have them check in will be shown on their past attended Check-In Events list via Handshake.
You may also encourage a student to take a photo or collect one of the career center branded workshop materials.
If you require the students to complete PathwayU Assessments they can send a confirmation email via the Send proof of completion button on their Assessments tab.
If you would like our office to confirm they attended please reach out to us at career@apu.edu.
To hire students for on-campus employment or student leadership roles, please follow the step-by-step instructions in the Faculty and Staff Handshake Guide to create a Handshake account. Once our team has approved your account, you can begin posting job openings using the required posting guidelines.
Please be aware that our department manages Handshake, the online hiring platform, and monitors legal and ethical hiring practices. The Student Employment Office assists in the hiring and onboarding process for student employees, including tasks such as submitting requisitions, I-9 forms, and timesheets. You can think of our department as handling the pre-hiring phase, while Student Employment takes care of the post-hiring phase.
