half & half
sugar
salt (rock salt is best)
flavored extract such as vanilla (optional)
ice
1 small Ziploc bag
1 large Ziploc bag
oven mitts/towel
Into the small Ziploc bag add:
1 cup of half & half
1 Tbs sugar
1/2 tsp flavored extract (optional)
Remove the air from the small bag and zip closed
Fill the large bag halfway with ice and add 1/4 cup salt
Place the small bag inside the large bag and close
Using oven mitts or a towel, shake the bag for 5 or 6 minutes
Remove the small bag, rinse off the water and ice, and dry
Open the small bag, stir, and enjoy!

Salt lowers the freezing point of ice, which makes the ice colder than normal ice water. This extra cold temperature is what helps turn the liquid cream mixture into ice cream. And that’s how you can make your own ice cream in a bag!
