Project Based Learning allows students and teachers to explore culturally relevant real-world problems and to critically think about solutions. In order to explore real-world problems such as natural disasters, world-wide inequality and inequity, public health issues, and other pertinent concerns that ultimately affect society as a whole, students who are engaged in PBL instruction analyze technical texts, design prototypes and presentations, and apply mathematical and scientific concepts they have learned while in class to various situations and within differing contexts. Moreover, “The Arts,” such as visual and performing arts are an integral part of PBL instruction. Project Based Learning involves students not only learning basic academic standards, but it also involves students learning the skills they will need to be successful in a global society. Global success skills include COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, CRITICAL THINKING, AND CREATIVITY.
