This week 3/23-3/27, we will be focusing on...
Reading: We will finish up unit 8: The selections in this unit are all about water and what it means to people in different societies. Students will explore a Greek myth and read an interview with a landscaper, a tall tale, and an informational text.
Writing: We will finish writing our opinion essay with the topic: Should money management be taught in schools?
I have a section on my Google classroom with anchor charts that students can use to assist them with their writing. It is under "Writing Anchor Charts/Resources".
Grammar: We will continue 5-A-DAY (week 10) which is a language skill review that will be done at the beginning of each class M-TH. It covers all grammar standards for 5th grade ELA. Every 3rd week, students will have an open notes assessment.
The March IXL leaderboard is live! This month, instead of most proficient skills, it will track who has the most mastered skills in 5th grade ELA. The top 5 students will go to the treasure box at the end of the month!

As we enter testing season in the next few months, you may be asking, "How can we prepare at home for milestones?" Well, worry no more! We have compiled a list of all the skills assessed on Georgia Milestones and provided an IXL Study Plan students can use to prepare. They will just find the skill they want/need to practice, typed in the code to IXL and work away. Happy studying!
