March 23-27, 2026
We will be focusing on the following:
IMPORTANT - Spring Reading MAP testing is Wednesday March 25, 2026
Reading:
We will continue diving into Unit 8 in our Benchmark Curriculum. Briefly speaking, Unit 8 focuses on fact and fictional information on Water.
Essential Question:
What does water mean to people and the societies they live in?
Goals:
In this unit, students will read works of fiction and nonfiction related to water. They will synthesize information to build the following Enduring Understandings:
Water is an essential resource that supports all life on Earth.
Water represents various things to different cultures around the world.
Ancient Greek myths contain many sea gods and goddesses that exert their powers over mortals.
Water plays an important role in the formation of communities and societies, and in people’s everyday lives.
Freshwater and saltwater resources/oceans should be conserved and should be protected.
Writing:
Multimodal Audio Practice
Students will be listening to audio clips and identifying the main idea from the audio to support their writing task.
Upcoming Graded Assignments:
Benchmark Week 2 Quiz is Friday March 27, 2026
Unit 8 Week 2 packet
Next week in math, we will continue exploring the coordinate plane through number and line patterns using multiplication and division.
Upcoming graded assignments:
General Classwork
*Reminder*: If your child fails a test (below 70), they will be given a re-take assignment or will be able to make test corrections to earn points back.
March 16-20, 2026
IMPORATANT MESSAGE: Science Spring MAP testing is Monday March 30, 2026.
Unit 4 - Energy Transfer through Electricity and Magnetism (S5P2 & S5P3)
We will continue learning in depth information on electricity and magnetism. Specifically, in this unit, students will explain the difference between naturally occurring electricity (static) and human-harnessed electricity.
The science standards are as follows:
S5P2.a.
Obtain and combine information from multiple sources to explain the difference between naturally occurring electricity (static) and human-harnessed electricity.
S5P2.b.
Design a complete, simple electric circuit, and explain all necessary components.
S5P2.c.
Plan and carry out investigations on common materials to determine if they are insulators or conductors of electricity.
S5P3.a.
Construct an argument based on experimental evidence to communicate the differences in function and
purpose of an electromagnet and a magnet.
(Clarification statement: Function is limited to understanding temporary and permanent magnetism.)
S5P3.b.
Plan and carry out an investigation to observe the interaction between a magnetic field and a magnetic
object.
(Clarification statement: The interaction should include placing materials of various types (wood, paper,
glass, metal, and rocks) and thickness between the magnet and the magnetic object.)
Students will be able to:
Students are expected to design a complete, simple electric circuit, an electromagnet and explain all necessary components. Lastly, students will plan and carry out investigations on common materials to determine if they are insulators or conductors of electricity. Students will investigate the relationship between electricity and magnetism.
Upcoming Graded Assignments:
Electricity Quiz is Friday March 27, 2026
In social studies, we will wrap up our WWII unit and test on Friday 3/27. A study guide was sent home today. We will also start our next unit, The Cold War.
Upcoming Graded Assignments:
Unit 7 Test
