Each task in a project is worth a chunk of points. When they complete a task 100%, students earn all the points (50/50 pts., 100/100 pts., etc.). One of my big goals is for students to do their best, so I do not allow incomplete work or give partial credit.
SEMESTER GRADE is calculated from the average of both quarters:
Unfortunately, students can give parents the wrong information. Here's a few things that are true:
Yes, students can do project work at home. It needs to follow Mr. V's requirements and be done using the right application.
Yes, students can make up project work for full credit. They will need to decide when and where to do it.
Yes, a student may have turned in an assignment, but it may not be finished completely, that's why there is a zero showing. After the student goes back and finishes it, they need to let Mr. V know so we can finalize it together.
Students have been well-prepped and there are resources for them. For each project, Mr. V introduces and explains the project requirements, demonstrates certain tasks or skills, and provides resources that will help students be successful. Mr. V assists students daily and reminds them of important details often.
Rarely.
Students in my class are in charge of managing their time on their project work. They may decide to work outside of class, if possible. They may want to get ahead or may need to catch up on project work outside of class. But, they have plenty of time to complete work in class if they are productive.
Tip: if a student is behind on a project and has the ability to do work outside of class, the answer is YES for homework. Students need to take the initiative and figure out how to get work done.
If you see a "zero", it means:
this assignment should be finished, but is not,
it will change when the student completes it 100%,
it is probably not shared with me at carlosjvigil@aps.edu or the student did not show me the work,
it may be graded soon - ask me to check it out
No. It is my policy that students need to do their assigned work completely, even if it takes more time. In the real world, their boss/client/customer/employer will expect 100% finished work, sometimes more. Many students understand they might have to do work outside of class to catch up or get ahead.
