Behavior management is crucial for a positive learning environment. In our classroom we follow the school rules. My behavior management revolves around restorative justice based practices & logical consequences. Logical consequences are used to manage behavior and encourage self discipline, respect, and cooperation. If these are not enough, administration will be involved to ensure the best outcomes for all students.
Loss of Privilege: A privilege is temporarily removed for a period of time, allowing reflection on its importance.
Break It, Fix It: Requires students to fix or clean up any damage or mess they create, reinforcing responsibility.
Space & Time: Provides a cool-down period for students to regain self-control and reflect on their actions.
Reflection Form: Students fill out a reflection form identifying the rule broken and plan how to change their behavior. This allows them to resume activities without further consequences unless the behavior is repeated.
Students will be recognized for their outstanding behavior through a variety of ways during the year. One way I like to ensure everyone is recognized is through our school wide "Bobcat Honor Paw" system. Students going above & beyond to show kindness, citizenship, and school excellence will be granted a paw. It is my goal for each child to earn at the least 2 paws over the course of the year, but my hope is for many more!
Please keep personal items and toys (including fidgets, sports equipment, and/or makeup) at home. If a personal item/toy is brought to school, I will ask your child to put it in their backpack. If the item is not put away after the first warning, I will hold on to the item until the end of the day. If this continues to be a problem I will hold on to an item and a parent must collect it after school.
I believe that it is important for children to feel celebrated. If you would like to share a birthday treat with your child's class throughout the year, please let me know a day in advance. This ensures no two birthdays are overlapped. When thinking of appropriate birthday treats please think individual servings (ex. cupcakes, muffins, rice crispys, donuts, etc.).
Recess snacks are recommended and strongly encouraged. Students get time to eat lunch each day, but kids can be picky and social during this allotted time which can impact their eating leading to grumpiness later in the day. Recess snacks should be individually packaged & separate from student lunch to avoid extra searching when transitioning throughout the day. Think healthy items such as fruit, veggies, cheese & crackers, or granola bars. Students may not share snacks due to potential allergy concerns.
