School Messenger
If you are not receiving the School Messengers that are sent out from Hubert Humphrey (via voicemail and email), please contact our fabulous secretary, Lisa Trepanier trepanier@aps.edu. There was one sent out about arrival/dismissal yesterday.
Daily COVID Check
Please check your child's temperature and look for COVID symptoms each day before school and keep them home if they are exhibiting any symptoms. They may participate in the remote learning platform for that day.
Supplies needed EACH DAY to/from school:
1. Fully charged Chromebook
2. Charger and headphones
3. Benchmark booklet only
4. Stepping Stones journal
The supplies listed below will be disinfected each day and left at school...
Please send these supplies on Monday:
*The notebooks they've been using all year (writing, math, reading)- it's ok if they're a mess!
*The small whiteboard and one dry erase marker from the beginning of the year
*Individual hand sanitizer (small enough to hook on a backpack, or keep inside their desks): I will be wiping, and filling these each day.
*A packet of mechanical pencils and one extra lead container OR 6 sharpened pencils with an individual pencil sharpener
*A pencil box (or gallon Ziploc bag is fine) Something we can wipe easily and hold these supplies.
*Crayons, markers OR colored pencils (something to color with)
*Scissors
If it is not listed above then I already have plenty in the classroom. Please do not worry if some of the student work has been misplaced. Ms. Rockett and I have also been explaining that to the class, just have them bring what they have.
Also, a HUGE THANK YOU for the cleaning supplies from the sign-up genius!
Snack
Please send a substantial snack for your child. We will take a snack break, outside, socially distanced each day. Students will not be allowed to share anything.
Some have inquired about birthday treats, unfortunately we will not be able to celebrate in the usual way. Please do not send in treats for birthdays.
There is Free APS lunch for the rest of the year! There is just one choice on the menu. You're welcome to pack lunches too. Students' individual lunch boxes will be wiped down each day.
Students are encouraged to bring large water bottles each day. They too will be wiped down.
Ms.Rockett and I will be reviewing all safety procedures with the students (social distance, mask wearing, hand washing, frequently etc.).
Packet Pick-Up Changes
Since parents are not allowed on campus at this time, every Wednesday from 2:30-6:30pm we will have a bin out in front of the school for students in remote learning to pick up/drop off work.
Dismissal
Please let me know what your child's BUS # is if they are utilizing that mode of transportation.
Thank you for filling out the How is your child going home? form sent out on March 31. This information is so helpful for us to organize the students, siblings and all of the times.
Yesterday, we showed our class the door they will be using for entering/exiting the main building. It has an orange sign on it and is located where they used to pick up and drop off their packets. We will be welcoming students at that door before school.
Daily Schedule
We will have just one schedule (for both remote and in-person learners to ease into these two settings).
For remote learners, all pull out classes will be asynchronous meaning the lessons are prerecorded and posted on those teacher's Google Classrooms. For in-person learning, those students will be involved with live instruction in the pullout classes.
If your child will be participating in the remote learning, have them login to the Google Meeting link that will be posted during the start of each ELA, Math, or Social Studies/Science lesson. Please be patient with us this first week as we get into our routines, our times may fluctuate slightly until we all get the hang of this. The schedule is attached to this email.
Thank you all for your continued support. Ms. Rockett and I are thrilled to be back and looking forward to an awesome week next week. If any questions come up, please let me know.

Conferences are scheduled for 20 minutes. *The Google Meet link was sent via email to you on Friday, March 12.

Students have been learning about Westward Expansion for the past couple of weeks. In their packets they received one titled "Moving West Wagon". This details step-by-step on how to recreate a covered wagon, copies, templates, and lists for vocabulary resources for the kids.
We will be focusing small group time this week on supporting the kids through their creations. The class will present their wagons on FLIPGRID starting on Wednesday. The Flipgrid will be available until Friday, 3/19. **Attached is an example of a completed wagon.
Northeast Region Lap Book
This region research is taking longer than anticipated. We will be dedicating the next few Wednesday Social Studies' lessons to supporting the students in these creations. (*Tentatively due April 9)

What's DUE? (Materials pick-up on FRIDAY DEC 11 from 9am-4pm)
Please see attached examples...It has been over a month since we've had a materials pick-up/drop off. So I will detail a list of what is due on Friday, Dec 11 in the box under my class window:

2. Novel Study paper packets & borrowed book (Rules, Tales of a 4th grade Nothing, & Fudge-a-Mania) ***When we meet this week we will go through the packet together. Students do not need to do this independently, there are some pages we will need to eliminate!

4. Extensions if they were completed for math practice ( see attached)
In the student baggies will be paper packets students will need for the following week, Dec 14. If you are unable to pick those baggies and gifts up please let me know.
Planning Ahead: Opinion Writing
This Friday, at materials pick-up, students will get a hard copy of our UGLY SWEATER writing! They will be designing the UGLIEST sweater they can and put that opinion writing to the test with a persuasive essay as to why their sweater is the ugliest. They can use items around the house to decorate their sweaters. I will show students some examples this week. Pipe cleaners, mini bows, sequins, glitter, or stickers are always a fun addition. If you don't have those items, please just have them draw and color on their template.
