Below is a snapshot of the concepts that will be covered each semester. I will be supplementing with additional curriculum to meet individual needs of students. Please see each section for a brief description.
Our class will read a lot of literature and nonfiction text. We will be conducting Shared Reading novel studies as a guide to model the skills students will need for independent work. Our first novel of the second semester is Crenshaw; copies will be provided for your child.
Our class will utilize Mystery Doug Science, as they are used to this platform from last year. We will combine these concepts below as well to provide a well-rounded curriculum.
Students will be learning how to integrate leadership traits into our daily routine. We will follow the book, The Leader in Me: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I run a highly-structured classroom and focus on positive reinforcement.
Based on Marzano's research, our class will follow what is recommended to best suit your child's needs. Students will have a maximum of 40 minutes of practice each night, however, if they are fast finishers during the school day time they may read for their "nightly" reading time then.
Nightly Reading Projects- students will complete an independent book along with a creative book project to showcase what they read. Students will present two projects each semester. The first will be due in October. More information and project ideas will be reviewed and posted in September.
*****Next project will be due the first week of May*****
