Rebecca Simons

Rebecca Simons has been the orchestra director at La Cueva High School since January of 2011. In that time, the orchestra program has grown tremendously. Under her direction, both Camerata and String Orchestra have received superior ratings at district, state, and national festivals. The LCHS Camerata Orchestra was selected in 2017, as the NMMEA honor orchestra for the state.

In addition, Camerata won 3 consecutive NMAA state championships and was selected to perform at the American String Teachers Association's National Orchestra Festival in 2019-the only public school in NM ever to be selected to perform! From 2013-2015, Mrs. Simons served as the NMMEA Orchestra Vice President for the state, also served on the committee for the NMAA state orchestra competition, and assisted the La Cueva High School music department as they received their first ever NAMM Support Music Merit Award in 2015.

Mrs. Simons has adjudicated at several festivals around the state, has conducted the honor orchestra in Farmington, and teaches a private oboe studio. In addition to the director of orchestras, Mrs. Simons started a guitar program at La Cueva and also teaches class piano. She was the co-conductor for the Albuquerque Junior Orchestra, which is part of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program, and was a sectional clinician for the high school ensembles as well. Mrs. Simons is currently the department chair for the performing arts department at La Cueva and is pursuing her national board certification. Mrs. Simons also serves as a Teacher Leader Facilitator for La Cueva High School. Mrs. Simons has performed with the New Mexico Philharmonic, the Santa Fe Symphony, the Las Cruces Symphony, the El Paso Opera, Southwest Opera, and Arizona Broadway Theatre. Rebecca Simons has degrees from Arizona State University, and the University of New Mexico.
