Concert Orchestra is an intermediate ensemble that meets three days a week for class. There are concerts and rehearsals scheduled outside of class time that each student is required to attend. Concert Orchestra travels with Camerata and String Orchestra on a yearly basis.
Each student must pass at least 6 scales a semester to earn your grade for the semester. You must pass all 12 by the end of the year. You must know the key signature (in the correct order) and be able to play each scale at least 2 octaves and three if possible on your instrument. (Basses play one octave and two if possible). Extra credit will be given to students who play three octave scales correctly. Intonation, fingering patterns, tone, and accuracy will all be considered in your grade. KEEP THIS ASSIGNMENT WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!!! If you do not hand this in at the end of the semester, you will not get a grade. Make a copy for yourself to make sure you have a back-up. We will go over scales in class, but it is your responsibility to work on them outside of class to perfect them. All must be memorized. Each scale is worth 100 points. It is YOUR responsibility to ask me AT THE BEGINNING of class to take your test. If you do not ask me, I will not test you, and you will not receive a grade for this project at the end of the semester. Get this done as early as possible, we run out of time toward the end of the semester!
You can do scales in class or send them to orchestralacueva@gmail.com at any point during the semester. You are required to do at least 4 scales during class.
