Reading Challenges will help students grow as Fluent Readers. As Fluency increases so does comprehension. When students are reading at just the eright pace, they are able to pay attention to the text and the meaning. Fluency is more than speed - it focuses on accuracy, expression, smoothness and pace.
How to Pass a Reading Challenge
How to Pass a Reading Challenge
Challenges can be handled out in class or printed from the website below. Click on the challenges to print.
Students will highlight the word family words in yellow and draw a picture that matches the meaning of the text.
Students will practice at home until reading is fluent (with accuracy, expression, smoothly and does not need to stop to sound words out).
Bring challenge to school and let one of the teachers know that you are ready to read the challenge. If your student passes, a new one will be sent home. If more practice is needed, the challenge will be sent home with a note on the top indicating areas of needs.
Challenges get lost and at times are not sent home on the same day. Feel free to print challenges at home and bring them to school to speed up the process!
