We have also begun learning how to make our lower case letters and their corresponding sounds in Fundations. We will be working on the letters t, b, f, m, n, i, u, c, o, d, and s this month.
In Language Arts we are working on your students ability to retell key details from familiar stories and identify the main topic of informational text. During writing activities we are exploring the use of upper and lower case letters, capitalization of the word I, rhymes, sight words, setting, punctuation and nouns. Currently, students are using a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to retell a sequence of key details from familiar stories.
Sight words are posted on my website, under student info and word wall.

In Math, we are practicing creating groups of objects. They are creating groups to match pictures as well as to match numerals and number names. Our emphasis right now is on numbers 1-10. They will be introduced to a 5 frame and begin practicing writing their numbers 0-10.
This month we will focus on manners. We will learn table manners, school manners and even practice at manners at home. We will learn about the New Mexico State Fair the week of the 13th and enjoy some fair favorites. Apples is a big part of NM produce and we will focus on apples the week of September 20th. One of my favorite weeks, fairy tales, will be starting on the 27th. We will read many different versions of the 3 little pigs.
The star student will take a poster home and fill it out over the week at home and return it on Friday along with one special item to share with the class.
This month we will begin our oral presentations. Please practice with your kiddos so they can present unassisted. Check out more information here.
Kindergarten will only be using Edgenuity fora small portion of ELA since we all know that Kinders need hands on experiences. Please try to finish these lessons by Sunday of the week they are assigned. Every week sight words will be introduced and added. Please practice with your student. Edgenuity does not follow Fundations letter order. Please focus your energy on Fundations. Edgenuity will be used for an overall introduction to letters. We will follow a predictable pattern each week. Please do not print anything in Edgenuity, we will send home everything you will need. At this time we will not do running records or reading logs. More info to come! If you have a hard time recording or retelling in Edgenuity, you can use the camera on the ipad and attach the file through Edgenuity.
