We offer enriched ELA and Accelerated Math classes for students who are eager to take on a more rigorous curriculum. These classes will have higher expectations for student performance and will offer opportunities for students to move through courses more quickly allowing for exposure to additional concepts.

Enriched English Language Arts (ELA) at Hoover Middle School is a three-year course sequence that offers 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ELA coursework at an accelerated pace. Enriched classes provide a rigorous curriculum for students who have demonstrated the skills necessary to read, comprehend, and write more complex texts than is typical at the 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels. In addition to all of the grade-level curriculum standards, students are expected to write routinely for a range of tasks, purposes and audiences, acquire and use accurate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, and read and comprehend complex literacy and information texts independently and proficiently. Enrichment will be offered in the combined Gifted-Enriched ELA classes. Students enrolled in Enriched ELA are prepared to follow this path to:
Honors English 9 and Honors English 10
Advanced Placement English Language in 11th Grade
Advanced Placement English Literature in 12th Grade
Dual-Credit College English Classes

Accelerated Math 6
The goal of Math 6/7 Accelerated is to enhance and exceed the mastery of the 6th grade math standards and one half of the 7th grade math standards. Instruction provides greater depth at an accelerated pace. The student uses reasoning, analyzing, evaluating, communicating, and justifying to further develop his/her problem-solving skills. Areas of emphasis include, but are not confined to, fractions, decimals, and percents. Other areas of study are global mathematical processes; number and operations; algebra; geometry; measurement; and data analysis and probability. Literacy strategies are integrated throughout the curriculum.
Accelerated Math 7
The goal of Math 7/8 Accelerated is to enhance and exceed the mastery of prior math standards and prepare the student of success in pre AP and Honors math classes in high school.
Honors Algebra (for High School Credit)
Honors Algebra I is designed for any student desiring to take an advanced level mathematics course and who wants to be prepared for AP Calculus and may have an interest in preparing for a career in Mathematics, Science and/or Engineering. The student is prepared for the increased workload an Honors course demands. He/She is challenged to exceed the standards of the Algebra I course in order to prepare him/her for the rigor of more advanced classes such as AP Calculus. Throughout the course, the student develops concepts, techniques and theory in greater depth than the Algebra I course. Both acceleration and enrichment are integral components of the curriculum. This is the first course in the four-year Honors/AP Program on mathematics and carries a weighted grade. Other areas of study are global processes, geometry, and data analysis and probability.
There are four main differences between regular and Honors (pre-AP):
1. the sophistication of the response the teacher asks of students
2. the rigor of the work that is required
3. the way the teacher assesses what is taught and
4. the global connections that reach beyond the boundaries of what is taught in the textbook.
***Enrollment in Honors Algebra should be carefully considered. Students will not be allowed to leave the course after the first 6 weeks and the grade earned WILL be added to the student's high school transcript and figured into the High School GPA without exception.***
