School Instrument Use Policies and Contract

SCHOOL INSTRUMENT USE

Albuquerque Public Schools owns school instruments for students to use in the event they cannot rent an instrument. We provide these instruments so that every child has the opportunity to learn an instrument.

The student will keep this instrument for the school year and take it home every day to practice. 

The student and their parent/guardian will be asked to sign and return the School Instrument Use Agreement located below stating that the instrument will be kept safe and they understand their responsibilities for the use of the instrument. The contract MUST be signed and returned before the student may take the instrument home.

Please return the School Instrument Use Contract by Friday, August 18th, 2023.  

School instruments are available to all students. The fees below can be waived on request, however the cost helps maintain the instruments through daily wear and tear. 

When in class, each student will have their own instrument. For safety and sanitation, there will be no sharing of instruments between students or classes.

Fees for Using a School Instrument

Fee for School instruments used at home: The cost for using a school instrument is $40.00 per semester or $75.00 for the year if paid in full. This fee is for school instruments that travel between school and home or remain at home (such as school cellos and basses). It is possible to rent two school instruments for home use, but this will depend on the availability of instruments after all students have had one checked out to them. 

Fee for School instruments used only for class: Students who use a school instrument only in class will pay $30.00 per year for the use of the school instrument. This fee is only for instruments that do not leave the school, and applies to all school instruments. 

ALL BASS students will be provided two instruments: a school bass to use in class and one to use at home. Unfortunately, we do not have a rental shop in town that rents basses. Fees for those will be $75/year for the home bass and $30/year for the school bass. We can reduce or waive the fee if requested. 

ALL CELLO students will be provided a school instrument to use in class. We can also loan a second instrument for home use if the student does not have their own instrument.  

VIOLIN/VIOLA students are expected to bring their rented or school instrument to and from school. We can only guarantee ONE school violin or viola per child. Students who wish to use an additional school instrument only at school will have one checked out to them if supplies allow.  

Instrument Insurance

Albuquerque Public Schools does not offer an insurance policy on instruments and is not responsible for damage to instruments while at school or home.  It is the responsibility of each student to make sure his/her instrument is covered while at home or at school. School instruments may not leave the city of Albuquerque.
