Concert Uniform

Concert Uniform

For all concerts, students need to wear the appropriate uniform. Part of each performance grade is based on (how you wear) your uniform - neatness, appropriateness, etc. Remember-the definition of the word uniform is “sameness.” The majority of a concert’s visual aspect is established by the professionalism of our uniform. If you look good, you will sound good! Informal uniforms are the orchestra t-shirt and blue jeans and will be worn for casual concerts or field trips. The t-shirt will be provided at the beginning of the year.

All informal uniform (worn for field trips and informal concerts):

  • Orchestra shirt
  • Blue jeans
  • School appropriate shoes

Formal uniform (worn for formal, evening concerts):

  • Long Sleeve White Dress Shirt or Long-Sleeved White Button-Down Shirt
  • Black Slacks or Skirt (must cover the knees when seated, floor length skirt recommended)
  • Black Dress Shoes – Closed Toe
  • Black Socks or tights

The following clothing items are NOT acceptable concert attire:

Black jeans, leggings, sneakers (even all black ones), Shirts whose sleeves do not come at least to the elbow, t-shirts, skirts that do not reach the knees when seated. Tights must be worn under all skirts. Black socks must be worn with black dress pants. The director reserves the right to ask a student to change if the clothing choice for the uniform is deemed unacceptable for performance.

If you have any trouble finding clothing items for our orchestra uniform, please contact me and I will help you. If your child outgrows any gently used items and you would like to donate them, we can always use extra concert attire for students who may need them!
