Concert Dates and Attendance Policies

All School Concerts Begin at 6:30 PM and will be held in the EMS Gym
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023: Fall Concert. Advanced Orchestra ONLY. 6:30 PM. Beginning Orchestra Informance in Class.
Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th, 2023: Albuquerque Public Schools Middle School Honor Orchestra at Albuquerque Academy (for APS only!) Selected students will participate.
Tuesday, December 5th, 2023: Winter Concert Beginning and Advanced Orchestra 6:30 PM
Elementary School Tours. Advanced Orchestra ONLY, February 2024
Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 District Solo and Ensemble Festival. Held at Jefferson Middle School. All Orchestra members are invited to participate.
Wednesday, February 28th, 2024: La Cueva High School, Desert Ridge Middle School and Eisenhower Middle School Cluster Concert. 7:00 PM at La Cueva High School, Advanced Orchestra ONLY.
Friday, March 8th, 2024 Middle School Orchestra Music Performance Assessment Festival at La Cueva High School. Advanced Orchestra ONLY. Held during School day.
Saturday, April 13th, 2024: Beginning Orchestra Festival at Volcano Vista High School. Beginning Orchestra ONLY.
Tuesday, May 14th, 2024: Spring Orchestra Concert. Beginning and Advanced Orchestra. 6:30 PM.
Concert Participation Expectations: Concert attendance is REQUIRED for all scheduled concerts and events. In the event of a conflict, the student has the responsibility of submitting an excused absence request in writing from a parent, teacher, or sponsor stating the reason for the conflict two weeks prior to the orchestra event. Each case is evaluated individually according to its circumstances. I will work with families to find a schedule compromise rather than miss a concert.
Excused Absences: In the case that a rehearsal or performance is missed with an excused absence it will be the student’s responsibility to obtain the make up assignment from the orchestra director. Full Credit can be earned for an excused absence. Examples of assignment(s): writing a detailed concert review, researching information about the pieces performed and the composers, or a student performance of one of their pieces. The assignment will be due ONE WEEK from the date of the missed rehearsal or performance.
Last minute concert absences are not excused, with the exception of student illness or family emergency. Not having a ride to an orchestra function does not qualify a student for an excused absence, nor does a sports practice or regularly scheduled sports game. If there is a schedule conflict, please contact me. I can help you arrange a ride from another student or work out an arrangement with your coach.
